The Vasumathi Ramaswami Centenary Foundation (VRCF) was established to honour the loving memory of Vasumathi Ramaswami, the managing trustee's mother. Vasumathi Ramswami (1917 -2004) was a remarkable woman who lived a truly extraordinary life. An orthodox woman with modern ideas, she was a social worker, writer, speaker and institution builder.
As one of the first generation of modern women writers, Vasumathi Ramaswami wrote continuously for three decades, producing hundreds of short stories, novels, articles, and commentaries. She was the first editor of Rajalakshmi, the first magazine in Tamil dedicated to discussing women's issues. Vasumathi Ramaswami firmly believed in women's education as a necessary condition for economic independence. With selflessness and an abiding love for humanity, Vasumathi Ramaswami helped build several institutions that promote public health, women's welfare, and women's rights. To continue her legacy and inspiration, a foundation was established by the family of Vasumathi Ramaswami in 2018.
